First Day Back

This morning, the Brail Tone College Club had its first meeting after
enjoying a summer break. Both public speaking and choir started and went off
without a hitch. Public speaking consisted of the members talking about what
they did during the summer, and impromptu. The choir did some singing, and
talked about what they did during the summer. It was a great first meeting.
The College Club is once again meeting at Kiwanis Place. Address, 10330 -
120 street. Public speaking is from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Choir is from 10:45
a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Twin Club

We had lost track of our twin club in Jamaica, when
snail mail was returned and emails bounced and we
thought that that was that. At this years International
Convention, Opt Keivin ran into Opt Jessica from our
Twin Club. Jessica sends her and her clubs best wishes
to our club and wishes to reestablish contact with us.
Jessica had changed jobs and is now looking forward to
seeing our bulletins once again.

CBC -Optimist Spelling Bee

The Leduc Black Gold Optimist Spelling Bee was in the
news. With the sad announcement that the 2013
CanSpell contest will not be held; CBC news contacted
Edmonton Dinner Optimists who relayed them to Leduc
President Ray Venturin. The interview question was:
how will this decision effect our contest. Already
Schools have contacted the Optimist Club to ensure their
school`s participation in the club event.

OI Convention 2018

Edmonton Tourism on the Meetings and Conventions
team have been working on the potential for Edmonton
to host the Optimist 2018 International Conference.
They have contacted Edmonton Dinner to discuss
thoughts on Edmonton hosting and look for local
ambassadors.

Friend of Optimists

Edmonton Dinner really needs active members willing
to help out or operate our projects. But sometimes this
is not possible with our busy world. An alternative is to
Become a Friend of Optimists:
Explore the volunteer opportunities to help “Bring Out
the Best in Kids” by becoming a Friend of Optimists.
Helping kids has rarely been more important than today
in a world where we are disconnected from each other
and engaged with our interactive technology. Being a
Friend of Optimists helps support the organization's
diligent efforts to reach out to kids. Receive special
e-mails and The Optimist magazine. Volunteer when
you want. So what do you think? Will you be a friend?
The annual fee is just $100 and large percentage is
returned to our club. Contact Opt Keivin for details.
