April 22nd meeting

Our next meeting is at 6:15 pm on April 22nd at at the Szechuan Castle 15415 111 Avenue. President-Elect Warren will be running this program meeting as Peggy is busy with her family.  We will have two guest speakers. Dave Cleary is with Wild Birds Unlimited and will be giving us a timely presentation on Birds.  We are optimistic that our current winter will end, the snow melts and spring arrives so please attend and learn about birds. We have a second presentation and Dr. Kerry Pawluski will be telling us about his Angel Flight program that he operates.  All members are urged to attend because of the many upcoming spring projects. We have a week of nine straight days of Optimist projects and all members are needed for some of these events.  Please bring a guest especially a prospective new member.

Commonwealth Parking

Our First event is on Wednesday April 24th
and about twenty members are needed to
operate all lots. We will be collecting $10 at
the gate for parking of our first Soccer game
members are needed as early as 4pm. Please
give Clint a call at 780-434-7133 and let him
know if you are available for this project.
Please note that times vary for each parking
lot.

Bicycle Safety

Optimists are needed for three Bicycle Safety events as well as the Helmets for All events. The Beaver Bike Safety will be held at the Britannia Youngstown hall on 15927 -105 Avenue on Tuesday April 23rd. Members are needed as mechanics and to operate a rodeo. About 60 kids are expected. Please arrive at 5:30 pm for set-up. Contact Opt Beryl for details The Bikeree will be held on May 11th at various locations in the River Valley. Members are needed as mechanics, registration, helmet check and to operate skill courses. About 150 cyclists are expected. Contact Opt Keivin for details. The 2013 Edmonton Bike Festival is planned for Saturday May 25th and Optimist are needed for helmet checks. Also we will working at a few schools during April and May to issue new helmets and if you are interested please contact Opt John.

Oratorical & CCDHH Contest

Please contact Opt Peggy if you know of any youth interested in the Optimist Oratorical Contest. Prizes include a scholarship. The District Communications Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will be held on Friday April 26th, 1PM, at the Alberta School For the Deaf, 6240 113 St Edmonton, AB T6H 3L2. Meeting April 8th at the Continental Inn

Our next meeting is at 6:15 pm on April 8th at the Continental Inn, 16625 Stony Plain Road. The CI offers a huge buffet with Ukranian dishes and a huge salad bar. This will be a regular meeting and all members are urged to attend because of the many upcoming spring projects. Please bring a guest especially a prospective new member.
