Optimist International U-18 Curling


Last weekend the Alberta Optimist Juvenile Curling Championships were held at the Highwood Curling Club in High River. The winners were:

NACA Women from the Saville Centre
Danielle Schmiemann (skip)
Kate Goodhelpsen (third)
Brenna Bilassy (second)
Rebecca Allen (lead)
Skp Wilson (coach)

SACA Men from the Calgary Winter Club
Tyler Lautner (skip)
Mark Taylor (third)
Jared Latos (second)
Connor Lenton (lead)
Blair Lenton (coach)

These two teams will now go to Langley/Surrey, BC, to represent Alberta in the Optimist U-18 International Curling Championships, April 2-6.

******UPDATE******
The Northern Alberta Curling Association event
took place at the Beaumont Curling Arena January
31 to Feb 2, 2014. Several Optimists attended the
event and special thanks to Opt Clint for
coordinating Optimist shifts. 11 boys teams and 8
girl teams competed for the Alberta Tournament.
Teams from Bonnyville, Edmonton Fort
McMurray, Fort Saskatchewan, Lacombe, and
Sherwood Park. The University os Alberta
Saville Arena sponsored about five teams and
congratulations is extended to the Saville teams
winning the northern events and they now move
on to the Alberta Tournament and hopefully to
compete in the Optimist International U-18
Curling Championships this year in British
Columbia.

The Optimist International U-18 Curling
Championships is Canada's premier youth
event for players under 18 years of age.
(www.curling.ca). The Northern Alberta
Curling Association event will take place
at the Beaumont Curling Arena January 31
to Feb 2, 2014. All Optimists are urged to
attend. Contact Opt Clint for complete
details. 11 boys teams and 7 girl teams
will be competing for the Alberta
Tournament hoping to move on to the
Optimist International U-18 Curling
Championships this year in British
Columbia.

Friday’s opening draw will be at 4pm &7pm
Friday. Saturday games start at 9AM, 1pm
and 5pm. Sunday games and finals start at
9AM and the last round of games are at
1pm. Edmonton Dinner will have
representatives at all games. Also Leduc
and St. Albert Optimist Club members are
expected. A table will be set-up for
members to promote Optimism. Our club
has contributed $3000 towards the
Optimist International Juvenile Curling.
